Providence

AS220 [Un]Common Ground, Jide Adeleke and Marina Katayeva

Sprout CoWorking is thrilled to present an eclectic show for the month of August. In addition to the collection of images created by 20 artists at AS220 in our main gallery, Jide Adeleke will be back after 3 years with photos from his new series, and Marina Katayeva will display her large painted banners of tango dancers in our event space. On Gallery Night, dancers from Providence Tango will entertain us with their beauty and skill. Please join us for this fun free event on August 15th from 5:30 – 9:00 pm.

AS220 [Un]Common Ground is an exchange portfolio created by twenty members of the AS220 Industries in Providence, RI. These artists and makers each bring different skills and backgrounds to the table but were paired up at random and tasked with creating an image together using the resources available in the Printshop, Fab Lab, Dark Room, and Media Arts Lab available at the AS220 Industries. The collection is stunning in its diverse approach to image making and it is a testament to the vibrancy of the community. The artists are: Jacque Bidon, Jenny Booth, Savannah DaCruz, Ryan Dean, Madison Emond, Michael Ezzell, Brian Hennessy, Shannon Kennelly, Britton Kroessler, Hannah Liongoren, Rosemary Marchetta, John Paul McCaughey, José R. Menéndez, Ryan Pease, David Riley, Juliane Schlag, Leigh Waldron-Taylor, Lindsay Weitzman, Rachel Wise, and Zabi.

Jide Adeleke is a local photographer/artist from Central Falls, RI. He is currently a sophomore at New York University. Three and a half years ago, as a Blackstone Valley Prep High School student, Jide was one of the first artists to showcase their work at the Gallery at Sprout CoWorking. Now he is back with more passion for photography and a new string of work from an ongoing series titled “eXecute”. We had a conversation about his photos and exhibition opening August 5th, readable on the blog. Visit his portfolio online at www.itsjideade.com.

Marina Katayeva has a wide range of professional experiences in architecture, interior design and research and development, both in Ukraine and in the United States. Through changes of country and changes of profession, the one constant has always been drawing. She calls her drawings sketches, but they are in fact one endless line. Now focused on dancing figures, Tango has taken over her spare time and nights. She has moved from pencil and paper to big brushes and huge canvases. Her paintings are deceivingly simple and create a very energetic and sensual atmosphere. She is now focused on Tango jewelry so that dancers can recognize each other all over the world. Visit her on Facebook at Charmed Cabeceo.
