Jonathan Garcia

“In 2016 I moved from my childhood home of 20 years with my mother and sister leaving behind everything that I had ever known. I had a basketball hoop at my old house and would often go outside and shoot hoops in my driveway to clear my head and ease my anxiety. When I moved and was unable to take my basketball hoop with me and I was forced to find another outlet to help keep me relaxed and clear my head from time to time, that’s when I discovered painting. I started painting in the fall of 2017 teaching myself the basics. Over time I grew more comfortable and by last summer I would often go out and paint on location. Plein Air painting became my new outlet to clear my head and relax. Being out in nature while being creative and capturing a location through my eyes and putting it on canvas is something I have grown to love over the past two years.

This series of work is a compilation of some older and newer pieces dating back to last summer most of which were painted on location along with some larger studio pieces inspired from my various plein air studies mainly capturing scenes of southcoast Massachusetts and Rhode Island.”
