Mary Murphy-Taylor is a freelance documentary photographer based in Southern New England. This exhibit will be a celebration of Women’s History month and her second solo show to date. She is self-taught, first discovering the darkroom and the 35 SLR camera as a high school sophomore. In August of 2018 Mary lost her daughter suddenly and didn’t pick up the camera for almost a year. Today she continues to tell stories that are important because she knows her daughter would want her to continue. As a member of the National Press Photographers’ Association, Mary also purchases old photographs and negatives from antique stores. She reprints these photos and hand colors the prints.
“Photography always tells the truth, whether, good, bad or indifferent. I use photography to tell stories.”
Mary Murphy-Taylor’s work can be found online at www.murphytaylorphotography.com. Mary’s work will be on display at the Gallery at Sprout CoWorking in Warren from March 2-27. An opening celebration is scheduled for Saturday March 14th 4-7: pm. RSVP to the opening event on Facebook here.
“This group of photographs takes a look at Women. My work explores the power, strength and beauty of women today. This project started several years ago, and has been an ongoing body of work. I believe it is still a work in progress, just as women are.” Download the full artist statement below to read more.
