April 2020 Virtual Gallery: Red Self-Portrait Series

Red Self-Portrait Quarantine Series

The Red Self-Portrait Quarantine Series started off as an Art Project Challenge that Hillary Weinberger, former Community Business Director of Sprout CoWorking Providence, presented to a few friends in the beginning of her COVID-19 quarantine. When first challenged, many friends resisted – “I’m not an artist. I’m not creative. I can’t draw. I don’t have anything red.” But with a little bit of encouragement, Hillary was able to convince them that they didn’t have to be artists to create art. The challenge was about trying something new during this unpredictable time. So, friends got creative.

Below you will find red self-portraits from artists of all ages, from over 15 countries, who found ways to be creative and express themselves during the COVID-19 quarantine. Click on a portrait to find out where in the world the artist was quarantined.

If you’d like to contribute your own red self-portrait to the project, email a picture of your creation to [email protected], and we’ll add you to the collection!
