Providence

Ashley Bald is an artist in North Providence. She works in various mediums, but most frequently in painting as well as digital art. Her experience as an artist started when she was accepted into the Creative and Performing Arts High School in 2005 and grew from there. Since then she has her Associates Degree in Graphic & Visual Arts from the Community College of Philadelphia and has been at RISD since 2017. She has shown and sold her work at Galleries in and around RI, at the RISD Alumni & Student Art Sale, and at vendor booths in local festivals. “Creating artwork is my deepest passion. My paintings are inspired by color interactions and the emotions they evoke. I work with fluid acrylics on canvas and other various materials. Working with paint in this way has been an artistic escape for me, away from my tedious design work and daily worries. The best part of my work is always hearing what others feel when they view my pieces and their personal connection to my art.”

Mary Casale is a Rhode Island native, musician and music educator who uses large squeegees to apply, layer, and scrape away acrylic paints from large and small-scale canvas and panel. Inspired by German born abstract painter Gerhard Richter, and using predominantly primary colors of red, yellow and blue, Casale creates pieces that are colorful, energetic, and provocative. The paintings invite us to engage and experience the beauty and energy of color, and the spectrum of human feelings as expressed within the context of the abstract; a world boundless, indefinite, continually uncertain.

Anthony DiPalma is a writer and self-taught artist based in Pawtucket, RI. He works primarily with pen and ink to create achromatic fantasy scenes that seek to balance the traditional motifs of masculinity and femininity within the same composition. His goal is to make local art affordable and accessible to everyone, especially those who do not typically find themselves immersed in the world of Fine Art. He has always maintained the belief that Fine Art can be found everywhere – from tattoo parlors to comic books, and he wants to blend both worlds together. In short: Anthony likes to draw skulls. His influences include HP Lovecraft, Alice Zhang, and Matthew “SinEater” Glover.

Eran Fraenkel is a self-taught abstract artist who moved to Providence in 2016 after 22 years living in Macedonia, Brussels, Jakarta, and Barcelona. A life-long musician, Eran responds to the aural and visible world to create visual rhythm, tempo, and harmony. In Indonesia, Eran was inspired by the oceans and his experiences underwater; by Java’s vibrant batiks; and by Javanese gamelan. His Barcelona pieces juxtapose the aesthetics of Catalan modernisme and the region’s Moorish art. Eran’s pen-and-ink work, displayed in this exhibit, reflect his fascination with Islamic geometricity and calligraphy. Eran works primarily with acrylics, inks, and pencils. Recently he began experimenting with alcohol inks and resin pours, and is learning glassblowing. Eran currently serves on the board of the Pawtucket Arts Collaborative and Gallery Night Providence, and is an Elected Artist in Art League Rhode Island.

Dr. J.B. Hack is a medical toxicologist and emergency physician. He is professionally trained to work in chaos – it is a loud, vibrant, and critical environment that takes a tremendous amount of mental attention. He creates each of these abstracts after work, being still and silent as he contemplated a specific concept to bring peace to his thoughts. He can be found online at OLEANDER PHOTOGRAPHY.
