August 2021 Gallery Openings: Wendy Crooks / Jossy Lownes

In Providence this month:

For the month of August the Gallery at Sprout Providence (166 Valley St) is presenting a series of portraits by artist Wendy Crooks. The exhibition will be open to the public and on display through August 31st. Come by the Gallery at Sprout to see the artwork in-person weekdays from 9am to 3pm, or by appointment. Join us for Gallery Night Providence at Sprout CoWorking to meet the artist and tour the gallery on August 19th from 5 to 7:30pm. About Wendy Crooks:

Artist Statement

Wendy Crooks is a portrait artist whose aim is to capture the essence of her subject in one of her chosen mediums, oil, pastel, or charcoal. She strives to capture that spark that reveals the person.

Bio

Wendy Crooks was born in Hertfordshire, England.  After moving around England, Europe and the United States she now calls Rhode Island home. She is married with two grown children and two grandchildren.

Wendy graduated from the International School of Brussels, Belgium. She went on to study art in London at the Ealing School of Art and Hammersmith Art School. She continued her education concentrating on portraiture with artists she admires such as Everette Raymond Kinstler, Micheal Shane Neal, Seth Hevercamp, Jeremy Lipkin, to name a few. Wendy has served on the boards of several local art associations. She served as Ambassador to Rhode Island for the Portrait Society of America. Her work has been shown throughout Rhode Island and Massachusetts, where she has won many prizes for her work. Her work can be found in private collections in England, Europe and the United States. This August the Gallery at Sprout Warren (489 Main St) is presenting new paintings by Jossy Lownes. Check out our previous month’s blog to learn more about the artist. The exhibition will be open to the public and on display through August 15th. Visit Sprout Warren to view the work in-person Wed & Thurs 10-6, Sun 10-3 or by appointment. New artwork will go up at the midway point in the month. Join us August 26th for Art Night Bristol Warren at Sprout. Stop by 5:30-8:30pm to explore the Gallery and new Gift Shop with handmade items by local makers!
