The Gallery at Sprout CoWorking’s November art show “Vibrant Life in the Woonasquatucket River Watershed” will be hosted in conjunction with the Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (WRWC)! Please join us on November 17th at 166 Valley Street for a celebration of local arts and the WRWC for Gallery Night on the Third Thursday of the Month. On the evening of November 17, the show will be featured as part of Gallery Night Providence’s monthly art tours. Stop in at 166 Valley Street anytime between 5-8pm on November 17, or RSVP via Eventbrite for a free guided trolley tour with a stop at Sprout on the itinerary. Make your own tours across the city of Providence are also available! The exhibition will be on view and open to the public for visitors at the Gallery at Sprout CoWorking from October 31-November 25, Mondays through Fridays from 9am-3pm, or by appointment.
About the Community Art Exhibit:
The Woonasquatucket River watershed is more than a landscape. It is a cultural space full of energy, excitement and biodiversity. The watershed can be imagined as a meeting place for all. Though the watershed expands 50 square miles, we are all connected by the water running through our shared Woonasquatucket River. “Vibrant Life in the Woonasquatucket River Watershed” celebrates the Woonasquatucket River, and the community of artists who have been an integral part of our work. This exhibit and sale will also raise awareness of and funds for the WRWC’s programs and activities.
More than 50 locally and nationally artists have made paintings, collages, sculptures, photographs and more that celebrate vibrant life in the Woonasquatucket River watershed. Artists were invited to create work shaped by the Woonasquatucket River and its connected waterways. Artists were encouraged to work across the watershed and across disciplines that bring forward questions about human impacts on the environment, points of tension, and those that celebrate the vibrancy of the shared watershed. The juried art show will hang at Sprout CoWorking for the month of November.
Art was juried by a review board consisting of WRWC staff and board members and friends from the community. The WRWC invited work that was shaped by the Woonasquatucket River and its connected waterways. Art of all mediums will be featured. WRWC Director of Projects Lisa Aurecchia said, “The WRWC has a deep appreciation for the artists, students, and volunteers who have created beautiful works of art along the river and in its watershed. We are so excited to share work from old and new friends.”
About the Woonasquatucket River Watershed:
The Woonasquatucket River Watershed Council (wrwc.org) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization that works to create positive environmental, social and economic change by revitalizing the Woonasquatucket River, its Greenway and its communities. WRWC offers year-round opportunities for the community to engage with the river and the watershed through paddle trips, bike tours, environmental education, festivals, and restoration projects.
